For this class of cleaning brushes, selection is based on the flue way diameter and brush material. Always verify the brush diameter against the boiler manual, and ensure the handle length reaches the full depth of the flue.

When heat exchanger passages become blocked with soot or scale, boiler efficiency drops and flue gas flow is restricted. Equipment may show reduced heat output, increased fuel consumption, or elevated flue gas temperatures. Visual inspection of the heat exchanger tube bundle will reveal soot or scale buildup on internal surfaces; the brush is used during routine maintenance to clear these deposits before blockages develop.
