Description
This burner control unit (RMO88.53C2) is a microprocessor-based oil burner control for Riello burners, supplied by Siemens. It is designed for 220–240 V, 50–60 Hz, intermittent duty, and meets EN267. It has a 5 s safety time at start-up and a flame detector type of photocell. It accepts an ionisation electrode or UV detector as flame sensor. It provides one-stage and two-stage control, mounts on a plug-in base, and is rated for 0–40 °C ambient. It locks out after three flame losses.

Choosing and fitting
Controls of this type are selected by supply voltage, safety time and the flame sensor type they accept. Before ordering, verify that the wiring base matches the existing socket and that the timing and reset behaviour suit the burner. During installation, keep the ionisation/UV cable no longer than 1 m, ensure the ion pin-to-ground resistance is at least 50 MΩ, and do not press the reset button with more than 10 N. Disconnect power before rewiring, do not confuse line and neutral, and keep controller terminals well insulated from the ignition cable.
Signs of failure
When flame is lost, this class of control normally attempts a restart; after three flame losses it locks out. Fault, false flame and low-voltage conditions are indicated by the alarm lights. A flame sensor cable longer than 1 m, a contaminated sensor, or an ion-pin-to-ground resistance below 50 MΩ can prevent flame confirmation and lead to lockout. Check the sensor and cable insulation before replacing the control.
