Description

This microprocessor controller is a burner management unit for forced-draught gas and oil burners. It is intended for single-stage or two-stage burners and operates on a supply voltage of 220–240 V. The unit provides a pre-purge time of 1.5 s, a safety time of 10 s, and reacts to flame loss in under 1 s. It uses an ionisation electrode or photodiode for flame detection and includes a built-in ignition transformer. The safety function is a non-volatile lockout with manual reset via a button on the housing. Protection class is IP00 and the unit weighs 200 g.

Replacement guidanceDirect replacement for obsolete FM11 control units
Reset button locationon the unit itself, not on front panel
Valve 2 delayprovided upon flame detection (for two-stage burners)

Choosing and fitting

Units of this type are selected by matching supply voltage, programme timings (pre-purge and safety time), flame detector type, and the number of burner stages. Before ordering, compare the electrical connection and any second-stage delay function with the original controller. Installation and replacement must be done only by qualified personnel authorised for gas equipment. The controller must be mounted according to its IP00 protection rating, with sufficient protection from dust and moisture and proper earthing.

Signs of failure

Failures often show as a lockout: the burner fails to start, or starts and locks out when no flame signal appears within the safety time. A burner that runs and then shuts down spontaneously may have lost the flame signal or received a trip from an external safety device such as an air pressure switch. Check the flame sensor (ionisation electrode or photodiode), spark, fuel supply, and external circuits before deciding to replace the control unit.
