The Honeywell IRD1020.1 flame sensor (SKU 1653104, also listed as 852.211.008) is an infrared detector for gas and oil burners. It operates on 230 V with a frequency of 50–60 Hz and uses a photocell sensing element. The ambient temperature range is -20 to 60 °C. It is a flicker detector with end-on viewing and a blue housing. It is designed for use with Satronic control boxes TFI 812, DKG 97, DMG 97, and DLG 97.

Parts of this type are chosen by matching the detection principle, spectral range, response time, cable length and connector type, as well as the mounting sleeve. The sensor must have a direct line of sight to the flame. Mounting configurations include end-on or side-on viewing, so the correct orientation must be selected for the burner's viewing port. Typical failures of such sensors include a contaminated optical window, an aged photocell producing a weakened signal, or a broken sheath that compromises the electrical connection. When the sensor fails, the burner control will not receive a flame signal and will lock out, shutting off the fuel supply to prevent unsafe conditions. Check the viewing window for dirt or damage, measure the photocell output, and inspect the cable and sheath for wear. Also verify that the detector is correctly aligned and that the flame is within its field of view.
