Description

This ionization cable for Riello gas boilers carries the low-voltage flame-signal current from the ionisation electrode to the burner control. The control applies a rectified voltage to the electrode during ignition, and the cable allows the small DC current from the flame to flow back. It has a conductor cross-section of 0.75–1.5 mm² and insulation temperature class F or H, suitable for proximity to the combustion head. Connectors are included, and no soldering is required for installation.

Choosing and fitting

Ionization cables of this type are selected by connector series, pin count and keying, conductor cross-section (typically 0.75–1.5 mm²), insulation temperature class (often F or H), overall length, and terminal type. When replacing, verify that the connector on the control board side fits securely and is keyed correctly; forced insertion can damage the pins. Check that the insulation is rated for the combustion head area, as temperatures there can be high.

Signs of failure

A broken, shorted, or high-resistance cable causes the control to fail to detect flame, resulting in lockout. Insulation brittleness or melting near the electrode is a common failure mode that produces intermittent flame loss. Poor contact at either connector can mimic almost any flame detection fault, so always check the cable as a standard step during lockout troubleshooting.
