Description

This is an ignition transformer for gas boilers. It steps up mains voltage to create a spark across the ignition electrode, and it operates only during the ignition phase under the burner control. Once the flame is sensed, the transformer is de-energised. It is used in ACV BG2000-s100, HeatMaster 100, and HeatMaster 120 systems.

Choosing and fitting

Parts of this type are selected by secondary voltage and current, primary voltage, duty cycle, mounting and terminal type, and the connector pattern for the ignition cable. Before ordering, verify that the mounting pattern and cable connector match the original, and inspect the condition of the ignition cable.

Signs of failure

A hardened or cracked ignition cable can leak the high voltage to earth, which mimics a faulty transformer and leads to misdiagnosis. The burner may then fail to ignite or the spark may not appear at the electrode. Always test the ignition cable and its silicone insulation before replacing the transformer.
