This ignition transformer, by Anstoss, steps mains voltage up to the level required for a spark at the ignition electrode gap. It operates only during the ignition period, under command from the burner control, and remains passive once the flame is established. It sits electrically between the burner control and the ignition electrode, delivering high-voltage pulses through a silicone-insulated cable.

When choosing a replacement ignition transformer, confirm that the secondary voltage and current, primary voltage, duty cycle, mounting and terminal type, and cable connector pattern are compatible with the existing installation. Check the mounting dimensions and terminal arrangement against the original part, and ensure the primary voltage matches the burner supply. Such transformers typically operate at 230 V, but 110 V and 24 V versions are also available.

If the burner fails to ignite or sparks erratically, the ignition transformer or its cable may be at fault. A hardened or cracked silicone-insulated ignition cable can leak the spark to earth, producing the same symptoms as a faulty transformer. Always inspect the cable for cracks or hardening before concluding the transformer needs replacement.
