Description

This electronic ignition transformer is intended for use in heating systems with oil or gas burners. It converts the incoming current into high voltage to create a spark on the ignition electrodes during burner startup. The unit operates at a supply voltage of 230–240 V and a frequency of 50–60 Hz. Its sealed housing and plug connectors simplify connection and protect internal electronics. The device complies with European electrical safety standards.

Choosing and fitting

Replacement ignition transformers are selected by matching the primary supply voltage and the secondary output characteristics to the burner control and electrode gap. Verify that the duty cycle is rated for intermittent operation and that the terminal type and mounting dimensions fit the existing bracket. The high-voltage cable connector pattern must be compatible with the transformer. Before installation, inspect the ignition cable and electrode assembly, as a worn cable or incorrectly gapped electrodes can cause weak or no spark even with a new transformer.

Signs of failure

Ignition transformer failures typically result in a weak or absent spark at the ignition electrodes, causing the burner to fail to light and lock out after an ignition attempt. However, a hardened or cracked high-voltage cable can leak the spark to earth and mimic a failed transformer, while dirty or worn electrodes can also prevent sparking. If a new transformer does not restore spark, check the ignition cable and electrode condition. If the burner locks out after a successful replacement, inspect the flame detection circuit.
