Description

This dual-spark step-up transformer supplies 7.5–13 kV secondary voltage and 35–40 mA secondary current from a 230 V, 50–60 Hz supply. It produces a peak ignition voltage of 26 kV and is rated for continuous operation with a duty cycle of 50% at 3 minutes. It has two poles, dimensions of 85 x 38 x 66 mm, a net weight of 0.6 kg, and IP44 ingress protection. The primary current draws 0.15–0.25 A. It is intended for gas and oil industrial burners and operates only during the ignition phase. Connectors are plug-in ø4 mm for the ignition cable and a 3-pin plug-in power connector with a separate ground terminal. Country of origin is Italy.

Choosing and fitting

When selecting a replacement ignition transformer, verify the secondary voltage, secondary current, primary voltage, duty cycle, mounting arrangement, and connector pattern. Parts of this class are available in different mechanical footprints, so confirm that the replacement fits the burner mounting bracket and that the connectors match the wiring harness. Also check the supply voltage, as 110 V and 24 V variants exist, and confirm the cable insulation type is appropriate.

Signs of failure

A worn or damaged ignition transformer can cause the burner to fail to start, produce no spark, or operate intermittently. A hardened, cracked, or moisture-damaged high-voltage cable can leak the spark to earth, mimicking a faulty transformer. Check the cable and the electrode insulator when diagnosing a no-spark condition. Also verify that the transformer receives supply voltage only during the ignition phase, as the control sequence commands it.
