Description
This ignition transformer is a step-up transformer that converts 230 V supply voltage to 5 kV secondary voltage. Its purpose is to generate a high-voltage spark on the ignition electrodes during burner start-up. It has a compact housing and plug connectors, and it is designed for use with silicone-insulated high-tension cables. The unit is certified to European electrical safety standards.

Choosing and fitting
Replacement transformers of this type are selected by primary voltage, secondary voltage and current, duty cycle, mounting pattern, and connector type. Typical primary voltages include 230 V, 110 V, and 24 V. Always compare these ratings and the physical mounting arrangement with the original unit before ordering. During installation, inspect the ignition cable; if it is hardened or cracked, replace it, as a damaged cable can leak the spark to earth and that leakage may be mistaken for a transformer failure.
Signs of failure
When an ignition transformer of this kind fails, the usual result is no spark at the electrode and the burner control locks out after the safety time. A common problem is not the transformer itself but the high-tension cable: if it has hardened, cracked, or lost insulation, the spark can leak to earth and produce a fault that looks exactly like a transformer failure. Inspect the cable for damage and, if necessary, verify the transformer secondary output with a high-voltage probe before condemning the unit.
