Description
This UV flame detector is designed for industrial burners and boilers, operating on 120 V AC, 50–60 Hz. It detects ultraviolet radiation from combustion of gases, oil, or other fuels in standard applications. The detector features dynamic self-monitoring, with a shutter oscillating 12 times per minute, and can be connected in parallel with another detector. It is compatible with Honeywell R7061, R4348, R7861A, and 7800 series controls. The unit has a 3/4" NPT connection, a clamping-type terminal block, and comes with an 8 ft (2.4 m) cable; the maximum cable distance is 300 m. It weighs 3300 g and can be mounted horizontally, vertically, or at any angle.

Choosing and fitting
Replacement detectors of this type are selected by verifying the supply voltage, frequency, connection thread, and cable length against the existing control system. The detector is installed on a sighting pipe with an NPT thread—commonly 3/4"—and can be oriented in any direction. Confirm that the control unit supports the detector's shutter oscillation frequency and parallel connection if two detectors are used. The maximum cable distance to the control unit must not be exceeded.
Signs of failure
Typical failure symptoms include false flame-out signals, unexpected burner shutdowns, and alarm activation despite a normal flame. These can be caused by a degraded UV tube, a jammed shutter, or a dirty or cracked quartz window. When a detector fails, the control unit may lock out and display a flame fault code. Inspect and clean the optical surfaces, and check the shutter mechanism for proper oscillation.
