Failure of an NTC sensor of this kind commonly shows as a drifting resistance curve, which causes incorrect modulation of the burner. A broken cable interrupts the signal, and for clamp-on probes poor thermal contact leads to inaccurate readings. The equipment may fail to maintain target temperatures or respond erratically to temperature changes. Check the sensor resistance at known temperatures and inspect the cable and mounting for damage.
