Description

This is a pilot burner for gas burners and boilers. It provides a small flame to ignite the main burner and houses an ionization electrode for flame sensing. The burner is fueled by natural gas and can be adapted for LPG. It has a flame tube length of 150 mm and a tube diameter of 16 mm, with a maximum natural gas output of up to 1.5 kW. The connection is an internal RP thread. The burner is built from heat-resistant materials and features a ceramic insulator; the electrode is consumable and the pilot flame can be permanent or intermittent.

Choosing and fitting

When replacing a pilot burner, check that the flame tube length, tube diameter, and connection thread match the burner head. Also match the electrode length, bend, and spark gap to the original component. Mounting may be threaded (for example internal RP thread) or flanged, so confirm the flange configuration and the electrode's position relative to the combustion chamber. Before installation, inspect the new insulator for damage and verify the ignition electrode gap per the manufacturer’s specification.

Signs of failure

When pilot burners of this type fail, common symptoms include an eroded electrode tip and a drifted spark gap, which cause slow or intermittent ignition. A cracked ceramic insulator can short the electrode to earth or interrupt the flame signal. Carbon deposits from incomplete combustion can coat the ionization electrode, weakening flame rectification and triggering burner shutdown. Check these issues when ignition is delayed or the controller reports flame loss.
